As if waking up early to catch the bus wasn't a hassle already...thank you CTA

By Daisy Guzman '11

As of February 7, 2010, CTA has made a bus and rail change that will affect many of Marine Math and Science Academy's (MMSA) students. Nine express bus routes will be fully eliminated including X49 (Western express route) which many of Marine's students take everyday. Train riding hours have been cut and now start later and end earlier.

This change has affected a lot of people; especially students going to MMSA. Having to wake up earlier to catch the bus on time doesn’t please most of the students. “It’s not fair, I need to get up early, what’s that about?!” says Cadet Julie Ayala '11. As for the train being delayed, this has caused problems as well. Along with the bus, trains will be packed and come less frequently then they did before. Train times will be pushed back for all rail line affecting MMSA’s students from every side of the city.

Most students already know when their bus and trains old arrival times were, allowing them to plan everything to make it to school and back home at a certain time. But with this new change, things can get frustrating for students adjusting to the new schedule. “Waiting for train means waiting longer which means you might miss your bus, geez everything goes wrong!” exclaimed Cadet Viviana Guzman `12

Although it has been rumored that Mayor Daley has tried to get all the people in charge of CTA to meet and come up with some solutions, even with these promises being made it could be weeks until this issue is solved.
